Timeless continues to defy cancellation as NBC announced that it will bring back the fan favorite time travel show for a two-hour movie, which will serve as the series finale and tie up loose ends that were left dangling at the end of season two. Although it will not live on as a weekly episodic program, this news will bring closure to fans who rallied hard to save the canceled series during San Diego Comic-Con, when an airplane flew a #SaveTimeless banner paid for by a crowdfunding campaign.
In a joint statement with fellow showrunner, Shawn Ryan, Kripke explained, “While we wish we could’ve made another dozen seasons of Timeless, this is the next best thing. We’re thrilled to take the Lifeboat out for one last spin and bring closure to our story. The studio, network, cast and crew are all doing this for one reason only: the fans. Because they deserve it. Because the fans made this happen and we thank them for their passion, support and helicopters. So? You guys want to get Rufus back or what?”
The two-hour Timeless finale event will air on NBC on Thursday, December 20 at 8/7c.
