“What You Talk About”

I chose this topic to be the first because I love to talk and I just feel it’s important for us to know that we are in total and absolute control of the things we say.

Firstly, it is important to note that talking is a means of communication through the use of language. With that being said , what exactly do we talk about? This is a vital question every one of us should ask ourselves. These days a lot of us engage in conversations that don’t even add value to our lives. It shouldn’t be so. Let’s take a look at a scripture in the Bible, Proverbs 18:21 – “Death and life are in the power of the tongue”. Now this simple sentence goes a long way. Our tongue is powerful and when we talk we are uttering either life or death, so choose wisely which you want.

Now to the issue of daily conversations where we have friends who use abusive words as a norm. It is extremely wrong. Colossians 3:8- “But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth”. From this passage we can see that God is truly interested in the things we say. Ignorance of the law isn’t and excuse.

There is also a part in Psalms 4:4 – “…commune with your own heart…” this shows that it is not necessary to talk all the time. And even when we do let it make meaning. Also in Psalms 71:24- “My tongue also shall talk of thy righteousness all the day long”. Don’t take this in the literal sense and start to say “oh she wants us to evangelize everyday hour of the day” no that’s not what it means. It’s just saying good things should proceed out of our mouth.

The important things to note are:
1- Speak the right things because the tongue is powerful
2- Avoid unnecessary discussions which aren’t of any value
3- Think deeply before you talk

In conclusion, let us consciously take control of the things we talk about. Also 50% of “gist” these days are mostly gossip which isn’t edifying the spirit so let’s try as much as possible to do away with it. We can also pray to God for wisdom so we know the right things to say at the right time. God bless us as we take control of our speech.
